Gabe’s 10 Best Movies of 2000’s

Since everyone is making their own Top 10 movie lists of the decade, i thought i would make my own. These are in no particular order, save the Lord of the Rings – which i do believe belongs on top. What sets these movies apart for me are either their brilliance in film making, the depth of the story, or the acting.??

  1. Lord of the Rings Triligoy (2001, 2002, 2003) – brilliant in all facets. Some of the best movies ever made.
  2. Gladiator (2004) – Incredible performance by Crowe, amazing story, beautifully shot film. Awesome all the way around.
  3. No Country for Old Men (2007) – Disturbing, deep, rich performance, out of the box film –and it has one of the best bad guys in recent movie history.
  4. Gran Torino (2008) – an amazing story, simply put. This is one of those movies that gives me chills at the end, in a good way. Eastwood is still one of the best.
  5. Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 (2003, 2004) –Tarantinos best. Just incredible movies.
  6. Dark Knight (2008) — It's rare that you get a superhero movie that has deeply moving themes and amazing cinematography and has an incredible acting performace (Heath Ledger).
  7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) – Brilliant film making, amazing performances by Carey and Winslet, and a great story make this one of the best.
  8. The Royal Tenanbaums (2001) — Wes Anderson's best film, in my opinion. Gene Hackman is fantastic, and the story is rich with humor and meaning. Fantastic all the way around: acting, story, cinematography, etc.
  9. The Departed (2006) — Martin Scorcese is the man, and this is one of his best. DiCaprio and Damon are amazing to watch in his film, the story is fantastic with an amazing twist, and there is a great morale at the end.??
  10. Gangs of New York (2002) — Another Scorcese film, this one with DiCaprio and Daniel Day Lewis, two of the best actors of our generation i believe. Daniel Day deserved the Oscar for this film. It's brilliant. I think it might be even better than The Departed.

Honorable Mention

  1. Million Dollar Baby (2004) — amazing film, but i was slightly depressed for the rest of the weekend when i saw it. Eastwood and Morgan Freeman had great chemistry.
  2. Oceans 11, 12, 13 (2001, 2004, 2007) — these are some of the few movies that i can keep watching over and over again. Soderbergh is a brilliant director.
  3. Good Night & Good Luck (2005)
  4. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004) — one of my favorites of all time
  5. 3:10 to Yuma (2007) — another one of my favorites of all time.
  6. American Gangster (2007) — Crowe and Denzel — why did that not happen sooner?
